Ueli Breitschmid was looking for honey when he learned that the estate he entered was for sale. The Breitschmid-Heiniger family already knew Sicily very well. Erika and Ueli and their four daughters went there regularly on vacation. Until now they have always rented an apartment, sometimes here, sometimes there. But what about having a place, a home, in Sicily forever?
In 2002, only a few weeks after these holidays, Ueli Breitschmid decided to buy Tenuta Palmeri. From then on, the family stayed here many times a year, not just for summer vacation. And with them: friends, acquaintances, relatives.
Doing nothing, even on holidays, was not the idea of Ueli Breitschmid. He had two plans: To turn the Tenuta into an organic boutique winery. He soon began planting vines, and more olive trees.
His second plan was to start a Thinktank based at Palmeri. Somehow it was a Thinktank already: Many acquaintances, active in the dental medicine and related fields, were already here, discussed, brought in ideas. Ideas that even led to concrete projects.
The Thinktank was opened in an official act: with Mayor Luca Cannata, Dr. Ulrich Randoll and Dr. Volker Jörger and many guests from Avola and Switzerland. Tenuta Palmeri now hosts the first Thinktank with holiday apartments – and an organic wine estate
