The Breitschmid – Heiniger family owns a small boutique winery in their hometown in Switzerland. When they bought Tenuta Palmeri in 2002 they wanted to continue this family tradition in Sicily as well. They started planning and in 2005 the first vines were planted.
The special location of Avola, surrounded by the Hyblaean Mountains, makes Avola the sunniest town of Italy. Conditions are ideal for wine production and the town is famous for the “Nero d’Avola” grape variety. Despite of this, the big wine producers all settled in other places, where fields are bigger and less steep. That’s why Tenuta Palmeri is the only winery producing wines from Avola.
Tenuta Palmeri owns twelve hectares of vineyards. The largest part is planted with Nero d‘Avola, with smaller plots being planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah as well as Grillo, Chardonnay and Moscato.
